About Us
Our team of 9 instructors brings a combined 30 years of Mahjong playing experience to every lesson. With over 300 classes and 2,500+ students introduced to the game (and counting!), we’ve developed a proven curriculum and teaching method that helps players learn the basics in just one or two sessions and then continue to play with confidence and connection through the tools we provide.
We’ve had the pleasure of teaching at Cal-a-Vie Health Spa, The Park Club, Kukio, The Elwood Club and premier country clubs throughout Orange County, as well as hosting team-building and client appreciation events for companies looking to create meaningful, memorable experiences.
Our classes are beautifully curated, combining thoughtful instruction for any learner, with an elevated and beautiful tablescape.

Meet the team
Jodie
With a dedication to both physical and mental fitness, Jodie's perfect day includes a competitive tennis match followed by a few rounds of Mahjong. She discovered the game while visiting a friend in Dallas in 2023 and was instantly hooked. What began as casual weekly games and late-night online play quickly turned into something more. A discovery that this game was a joyful blend of community, challenge, and fun that deserved to be shared.
Encouraged by her Mahjong circle, Mahjong OC was born. Since then, Jodie has taught hundreds of women (and quite a few men!) across Southern California. Her background in Human Resources, Training, and Sales combined with her experience administering and explaining complex corporate pension plans, makes her uniquely qualified to deliver instruction that is both structured and approachable. She has a rare ability to break down the basics for beginners while offering next-level strategy for seasoned players.
Her experience started in traveling to private homes, and she has expanded to teach at The Elwood Club, Cal-a-Vie Spa, The Park Club, The House, Newport Beach Country Club, Shady Canyon Country Club, Newport Beach Tennis Club, The Pendry Hotel, The Herron House and The Richland Hotel.
Jodie lives in Newport Beach with her husband, three teenagers, and an adorable King Charles Cavalier.

Tracy
Tracy has been playing Mahjong for over 15 years and brings a deep love for the game to every table she teaches at. She was first introduced to Mahjong by her cousin and best friend Mitch from Texas, and has been hooked ever since—especially when playing with the vibrant Marvelous Mah Jongg cards.
With over 30 years as a dental hygienist, Tracy has dedicated her career to keeping mouths and bodies healthy. Now, she’s added brains to the list, firmly believing that Mahjong is the key to staying mentally sharp and socially connected. She’s also a proud mom of two daughters and a grandmother to three lucky girls who are growing up watching the magic of the tiles in action.
Known for her patience, warmth, and clarity, Tracy is a natural at leading beginners through Mahjong 101 and 102 with practical tips and easy-to-follow guidance. Clients often say she “gives great tips” and “explains the details so well!” Her favorite Mahjong memory? A girls’ getaway to La Quinta, where her crew played for 40 hours over five day.

Sally
As one of Mahjong OC’s most enthusiastic instructors, Sally loves the moment a student gets stung by the Mahj Bug. “It’s so much fun to watch someone go from total confusion to making a winning hand all in their very first 101 class! Jodie’s teaching method really works, and it’s incredible to be part of that journey.”
With a fun background in design, Sally has a flair for style and a super creative spirit. Whether she’s mixing and matching tiles and racks or helping a student build their custom Mahj Kit, she’s all about making Mahjong feel personal, beautiful, and approachable. She’s even been known to help students create a dedicated Mahjong space in their home complete with stylish touches and perfect lighting, of course.
Sally is currently enjoying empty-nest life with her husband while their two college-aged kids are off pursuing their own adventures. When she’s not teaching, you’ll likely find her stitching a whimsical canvas (she’s obsessed with needlepoint), dreaming up her next creative idea, or planning the perfect Mahjong gathering! And she never misses an opportunity for a Mahjong dance when someone experiences their first Mahjong!

Rose
Rose didn’t set out to become a Mahjong enthusiast, but once she took her first class with Jodie, she was all in. She quickly fell in love with the game, its strategy, and traditions, and the way Mahjong brings people together. She set out to master her craft with focus and training.
With a background that blends structure and creativity, Rose has a thoughtful, approachable teaching style. She is especially skilled at making Mahjong feel less intimidating and more intuitive, guiding students step by step while keeping things light, relaxed, and enjoyable.
If students leave smiling, a little more confident, and already planning their next game, Rose considers that a win.

Jessica
There’s something magical about gathering around a Mahjong Table — the shuffle of tiles, the strategy unfolding, and the connections made along the way. By day, Jessica works in business development at L’Oréal, but her side passion is sharing the beautiful game of mahjong with anyone ready to discover it. What started out as simply wanting to find a hobby has evolved into something that truly brings her joy — and she’s on a mission to share that joy with others. She has always believed in keeping both her body and her mind sharp — you’ll find her on the tennis courts just as often as you’ll find her plotting her next move across the table. When Jessica is not playing mahjong with her girlfriends, she’s busy being a mom to two wonderful girls and soaking up every moment with her adoring husband — whether that’s exploring the outdoors or planning the family’s next adventure. Mahjong has brought so much joy, laughter, and mental challenge into her life, and she’d love nothing more than to help you find that same love for the game. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, come pull up a chair — there’s always room at her table.

Pamela
Pamela discovered Mahjong in retirement as a fun and engaging way to keep her mind sharp—and it quickly became a passion. Drawing on years of experience training associates in the insurance industry, she brings simplicity and enthusiasm to every lesson.
At Mahjong OC, Pamela enjoys working with small groups, guiding students through 101 and 102 classes and helping new players build confidence in the game.
Outside of Mahjongg, she stays active playing doubles tennis and working out at the gym. Pamela and her husband live in Irvine, where they appreciate the strong sense of community.
Her goal is simple: to share the joy of Mahjongg and inspire as many new players across Orange County as possible.
